Comedian Ed Hill will be making a stop in Medicine Hat on March 26 as part of his North American comedy tour.
Hill, a comedian for the past 13 years, will be performing two shows at the Mad Hatter Comedy Club at 6 and 9 p.m.
“I’m just getting back out on the road,” Hill told the News. “I did film my special Candy and Smiley during the pandemic, so this show is a follow-up to that.”
Candy and Smiley, which was included in Paste Magazine’s Top 15 Comedy Specials of 2021 list and named Best of 2021 by National Public Radio, is a one-hour special focusing on Hill’s experiences as a Taiwanese-Canadian. Throughout the special, Hill examines his relationships with family and culture.
During the tour, Hill will build upon conclusions he made within the special and continue to reflect on events and experiences in his life.
“My comedy is introspective,” said Hill. “(It’s about) trying to figure out who I am and what my triumphs and my struggles are, (so I speak on) my understanding of what it means to have strength, what it means to be fragile and what love truly means for me with others and with myself,” said Hill.
While some of the topics Hill will be discussing are more serious in nature, he guarantees audiences will still get a good laugh and, maybe, some insight into their own life experiences.
“There’s going to be heartwarming moments and heartbreaking moments, but hopefully (audiences) can reflect on the things in their lives,” said Hill. “Hopefully, they can ask themselves the questions in a way where it’s not threatening because it is a comedy show, so it’s meant to be lighthearted.”
Hill is looking forward to the tour and returning to Medicine Hat after three years away.
