https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews Property tax assessments will begin arriving in mailboxes today, according to the City of Medicine Hat’s finance department. Property owners will have 60 days from March 24 to appeal assessments. Taxes are due June 30. The 2022 budget amendments passed early this year assumes a three per cent increase in tax revenue. That includes a two per cent general increase related to inflation, 0.5 per cent in assessment growth, and another 0.5 per cent required to make up for a $500,000 cut in tax-related grants cut by the provincial government. An overview of the assessment was presented to a closed meeting of council’s corporate services committee meeting on March 10. In April, council will set the tax rate that will be charged against the assessment to determine individual bills and collect $80.8 million to fund the city’s budget. That document assumes $800,000 less in revenue related to lingering effect on fees and general business related to the pandemic, and a $2.8 million increase due to investment income. 8
