RBC, Shopify partner to purchase roughly half expected production from Rattlesnake Ridge wind farm, southwest of Medicine Hat

RBC and Shopify announced Wednesday they have formed a buyers group along with green electricity retailer Bullfrog Power to purchase about half the expected production from the Rattlesnake Ridge wind farm being built southwest of Medicine Hat. Berkshire Hathaway Energy Canada is the developer and stated in its own release that the deal, along with a similar power purchase agreement with an unnamed “large corporate partner” announced in 2020, means the total production from the 130-megawatt facility is under contract. The 26-turbine facility, located west of Seven Persons, is expected to be complete and in service in May and will be capable of powering 78,000 homes each year. RBC has a stated goal of reducing its carbon footprint by 70 per cent by 2025. 2030. Last spring they entered into a PPA with BluEarth Renewables’s Yellow Lake and Burdett Solar projects. 7-6
