Mounties in Brooks are looking for an injured man they say hit the ditch in his truck and then stole another on Wednesday morning.

The RCMP received a call at about 8:30 a.m. that a motorist had witnessed a truck go off the road on Highway 1A outside the city, but the Good Samaritan was assaulted when he checked on the occupants, and had his truck taken.

A 29-year-old female from Brooks is in custody, but police are still looking for a 30-year-old male.

He is described as having a light complexion with dark brown hair, standing 5-foot-8 and weighing about 180 pounds. Police believe he was badly injured in the crash.

The stolen truck was a blue, 2004 GMC Sierra, adorned with “multiple Canadian flags” and with Alberta plate BDL-8671.

Police say the man should not be approached, but anyone with information should contact police by calling 9-1-1 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Suspicious death

The Gleichen RCMP are treating the discovery of a women’s body on Siksika Nation as suspicious, the detachment announced Tuesday.

The service’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating after Mounties responded to a report of an unresponsive female in the morning of Feb. 27.

An autopsy will take place later this week, according to the release that provided no other details, including the name of the deceased.
