MHC unveils ambassador-led peer mentorship program

By Medicine Hat News on March 2, 2022.

Medicine Hat College announced Tuesday the introduction of an ambassador-led peer mentorship program which will provide support to students of Coulee Collegiate, located in Medicine Hat, and Sunrise Collegiate in Brooks.

Student volunteers will act as ambassadors for collegiate students, helping to connect them with services like financial aid and academic assistance, while also providing peer encouragement.

“The benefit of matching students to an ambassador is they can create a relationship and have someone to reach out to for guidance and support,” Shannon Maass, associate registrar at MHC, said in a release. “Not only do we want our collegiate students to feel supported, we want to consider benefits for our ambassadors.

“This includes gaining meaningful work experience and developing transferable skills and knowledge while participating in a program which has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of others.”

MHC remains in the early stages of planning for the program, which was made possible by a $92,000 investment from ScotiaRise. Funds for program creation and development will be allocated to MHC over a three-year period.
