Hat High basketball has two events this weekend fans won’t want to miss. Friday night the Hawks basketball teams are putting on the annual purple shirt game to raise awareness for ALS disease. This event is in memory of Karen Wagenaar, a parent and supporter of MHHS basketball and the Medicine Hat Christian School. The proceeds from admission, concession and any donations collected are donated to the ALS Society of Alberta. It has turned into a large event over the past two years, raising $3,007.05 in 2021 and $1,190 in 2020. The JV Girls start the day with a 2 p.m. game, and the JV boys follow at 4 p.m. The senior girls play at 6 p.m., with the senior boys capping off the night with at 8 p.m. Saturday is dedicated to the Hawks seniors. That day they will honour all of the Grade 12 basketball players with individual presentations for their final seasons. It will also be another day of quad games with the JV girls starting off at 1 p.m. and the boys following with a 3 p.m. start. The seniors games start at 5 p.m. for the girls and 7 p.m. for the boys. The Hawks will take on Magrath High School, the top ranked team in the 4A boys and second highest ranked 4A girls teams within the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association. Hawks athletic director Chad Watson said each event has a great atmosphere and are always packed with fans. 11
