The Snowed In Comedy Tour rolls into Medicine Hat on Feb. 22 and promises audiences an evening of fun and laughter.

Snowed In is Canada’s largest stand-up comedy tour and is returning to the stage after a two-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are four internationally tour-lining comedians and we come together every year and we do this national tour from the West Coast to the East Coast. It grows bigger every year as we put on a new show (each time),” Pete Zedlacher, one of the Snowed In comedians, told the News. “If you saw the show last year, you’re not going to see the same jokes.”

Zedlacher, who has been with the Snowed in Comedy Tour since 2015, promises there is material to suit every attendant’s sense of humour.

“We are four people who live in different cities and countries all around the world so we have different perspectives on everything, so there’s going to be something for everybody,” he said.

Zedlacher will be joined by veteran comedians Dan Quinn, Damonde Tschritter and Erica Sigurdson, all of whom are Canadian. The four have already performed for audiences in British Columbia, but are excited to continue their tour as they head east.

“We’re very, very grateful to be back on the road and seeing the faces again,” Zedlacher said. “Already … the feedback has just been incredible. People are loving this year’s show, especially because we’ve been locked up for the last two years so it’s nice to be back out laughing among your community again and seeing comedy the way it should be seen, live and in person.

“I think we’ve discovered the arts are incredibly important to people’s lives. Also there’s millions of people around the world that work in the arts and we have just been shut out from the thing we have passion about. If I didn’t get paid for comedy for the rest of my life, I would still do it because I love doing it.”

Altogether, there are more than 70 shows scheduled across the country, however that number may increase as provincial health measures change.

“I think there’s a real sense of pride from the audience and the cast as well, because this isn’t a tour being sponsored by a big comedy festival or corporate sponsor or television series. This is just a DIY, four hard-working Canadian comics who said ‘Hey, we can do this,'” Zedlacher said. “We have people coming back year after year to see us, so they kind of know us … We become a regular part of their year and we look forward to it every year.”

The show starts at 8 p.m. and takes place at the Esplanade. Tickets are available to purchase on the Esplanade’s website through Tixx Central.
