Stakeholders in the agriculture industry are inviting Albertans to celebrate Canadian Ag Day on Feb. 22 by taking part in agriculture education, showing support online or enjoying a meal made with farm fresh produce.

“It’s a fun day, whether it’s just taking a moment when you’re having dinner, lunch or breakfast and saying, ‘Where does my food come from?’ and being thankful we do have a vibrant agriculture industry in our province,” Agriculture for Life CEO, Luree Williamson, told the News.

“Canadian Ag Day is a celebration across Canada really focused on the agriculture industry and taking a moment to thank Canadian farmers for all they do to bring fresh, high-quality foods to our plates.”

“Canadian agriculture if fundamental to our economy and lives,” said Williamson. “COVID has taught us over the last couple of years how important the entire supply-chain and the value-chain of agriculture is, so I think that discussion … has allowed us as consumers, who are maybe disconnected from agriculture, to realize the important role it does play.”

Albertans can submit photos of their Ag Day activities to Agriculture for Life or post online with the hashtag #CdnAgDay.

“We’re looking for schools and teachers, farmers, consumers and Albertans in general to send us their pictures or videos or anything which really depicts them enjoying taking a bite out of agriculture, whether it be their food or tending for their livestock,” Williamson said.

“For our farmers and ranchers, every day is ag day (but) I think it’s always nice, whether it’s the ag industry or any other industry, to take a moment and wear a special smile that day and (say) ‘We acknowledge the work our Canadian producers are doing and we thank them.’ So, I do hope they have a smile on their face that day, just knowing we’re behind them and support the work they’re doing.”
