https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews Grain producers who were not paid by a bankrupt food handler with a Gull lake location will be compensated by the Canadian Grain Commission, it was announced on Tuesday. A total of $2.2 million will come from the commission’s surety system to settle 49 claims against Pipeline Foods LLC while it accepted deliveries at Gull lake and Wapella, Sask. before it went out of business in July 2021. “Our Safeguards for Grain Farmers Program plays a key role in securing payments for producers,” said commissioner Doug Chorney, the chief commissioner of the Winnipeg-based commission. “We are very pleased to be able to fully compensate eligible producers for unpaid deliveries to Pipeline Foods.” The company that also operated in the United States is no longer in business. 7
