A vehicle dealership group is expanding its local footprint and selection, as Badlands Harley-Davidson is set to become part of the Plewis Automotive Group.

That Swift Current-based outfit announced the deal Friday, stating they have come to terms with long-term motorcycle dealer owners Ivan and Wendy Karsten to acquire the business on March 1.

Terms were not disclosed, but Plewis plans to continue operating under the same name at the same location adjacent to the Trans-Canada Highway near Dunmore, and retain Ivan Karsten as general manager.

“It is a great addition to our dealership family as it allows us to continue expanding both the variety of products and services we offer as well as expanding our presence into some new markets like Lethbridge and Brooks,” said Mark Plewis, a partner in the family-owned Plewis Group.

His brother, Ryan, called the two family-owned operations a “great fit.”

The business was founded 25 years ago by the local couple.

“Wendy and I have made some great memories and even better friendships,” said Ivan Karsten in the statement. “We are both really happy though, to have a plan in place that will allow us to slow down and have a lot of trust that the Plewis family will continue to provide the high level of service and care our staff and customers have come to expect.”

The Plewis Group network includes three “Standard” branded dealerships in Swift Current, one in Shaunavon, and Standard Jeep Ram in Medicine Hat, which was acquired last year.
