https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews One of the men accused in a gun-related assault on the Southwest Hill last fall has pleaded not guilty and could have a trial scheduled next month. Chad Lentz was arrested in Calgary in November after local police put out a warrant for the man and a co-defendant after officers responded to early morning incident at a home on Seventh Street SW on Remembrance Day. On Tuesday in Medicine Hat Provincial Court, Calgary-based defence attorney Alan Fay came on the record and entered a plea of not guilty on behalf of his client. Lentz elected to be tried by provincial court judge alone, and Faye announced he plans to call civilian witnesses in his defence. That could mean a multiple-day proceeding, which would need to be scheduled by the region’s trial coordinator. Crown prosecutors will proceed with an aggravated assault charge as a more serious indictable offence. Lentz is also charged with possessing a firearms inside a motor vehicle. The matter will return to court on March 1 at which time dates may be fixed. 8
