Two more residents of Southwest Saskatchewan have died of causes related to COVID-19 this week, according to new figures released by that province’s health authority.

Overall active cases sat at 364 in the health region comprising Maple Creek (72) and Swift Current (292). That is a slight decline from earlier in the week when new cases levelled off from a peak at 412 on Sunday.

The previous wave peak was 282 in early October. Current hospitalizations remained at three in the region.

Deaths number 39 in the health zone of 38,000 residents that has recorded 3,128 positively diagnosed cases.

Sask loosens rules

Effective Friday, Saskatchewan residents must isolate for five days after a positive COVID-19 test or 48 hours after symptoms are rectified regardless of their vaccination status, that province has announced.

Previously those without any doses of vaccine were required to isolate for a 14-day period. As well, those who are close contacts to a positive case and vaccinated are no longer required to isolate, but should monitor their health closely, stated a release.

Anyone who is symptomatic is falls under the five-day or 48-hour rule.
