A trial date may soon be set for a man accused of continuing to spread racial hatred online in contravention of criminal sentence conditions.
Loki Hulgaard was sentenced to undergo therapy during a one-year community sentence that included house arrest then curfew, followed by two years probation in late 2020, after pleading guilty to passing currency stamped with anti-Semitic slogans.
Medicine Hat police arrested him in July 2021 after executing a search warrant following allegations that he was continuing to post material online in contradiction of another condition laid down by Judge John Maher in the case.
Hulgaard has pleaded not guilty.
On Wednesday, Crown Prosecutor Heather Morris and defence lawyer Michael Gilchrist agreed on the parameters for a trial and agreed that a date could be finalized on Feb. 3, when the matter is due back in Provincial Court.
Lawyers said they would require a one-day pre-trial conference and two days for a hearing into the conditional sentence order as witnesses are expected to be called and the defence may challenge evidence.
Hulgaard currently faces a single charge of breaching conditions of a Court of Queens Bench order.
The charge of promoting hatred carries with it a maximum sentence of two years behind bars upon conviction.
