Longtime Hatter, Tamara Lich, has organized a transport truck convoy which will pass through Medicine Hat Monday as it heads towards Ottawa in a show of protest against vaccination mandates for truck drivers.

Lich created a GoFundMe encouraging people to join the convoy – called the Freedom Convoy 2022 – following the Jan. 15 federal vaccination mandate for truck drivers entering Canada from the U.S.

“Our current government is implementing rules and mandates that are destroying the foundation of our businesses, industries and livelihoods,” Lich wrote on the GoFundMe page. “We are a peaceful country that has helped protect nations across the globe from tyrannical government who oppressed their people, well now it’s happening to us. We are taking our fight to the doorsteps of our federal government and demanding that they cease all mandates against its people.”

The convoy is scheduled to depart from B.C. Sunday and expected to arrive in Ottawa Jan. 29.

Lich, who is the lead singer of local band Blind Monday, is raising funds to cover the cost of fuel, food and lodgings for those taking part in the convoy. As of Friday evening, more than $1,115,000 has been raised through donations.
