Senior in custody on firearms offences after serious incident Sunday

kking@medicinehatnews.com A 67-year old man is in police custody and charged with several firearms offences following a serious incident which occurred in the Northland area of Crescent Heights over the weekend. Medicine Hat police received reports of an armed individual involved in a domestic dispute Sunday at approximately 3 p.m. Police responded to a residence where they found Barry Reed in possession of a handgun. They were able to safely remove a woman from the residence, however Reed remained inside. The public was asked to avoid the area as police attempted to extract Reed from the residence. Police report Reed was unco-operative and “refused to follow any directions.” They also report Reed waved the handgun at officers several times. At approximately 7:45 p.m. Reed exited the house and attempted to enter the garage, still waving the handgun at police. Several “less lethal” rounds were fired at Reed by police. Reed fired back, hitting the MHPS Armoured Rescue Vehicle. The Tactical Team responded and was able to extract Reed from the garage. He was taken to hospital and received treatment for minor injuries, and was then transported to the police station where he remains. Reed is charged with “uttering threats, careless storage of a firearm, pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon, possession of weapon dangerous, reckless discharging of a firearm and using a firearm in the commission of an offence.” He is set to appear in court on Jan. 12. 9-8
I wish Mr REED the best. Must have been under a lot of stress in his life to have him resort to this. A lot of people under a lot of unnecessary stress from this JAB don’t JAB BS going on…….TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON TOO MANY PEOPLE……..
