COVID cases in southwest Saskatchewan have risen 10 times above levels seen two weeks ago, though hospitalizations from the disease remain low and are holding steady.

Figures from the Saskatchewan Health Authority on Thursday state 18 new positively diagnosed cases moved the total of active cases to 104 in the combined Maple Creek (23) and Swift Current (81) health zones.

That is compared to nine active cases on Dec. 27 and fewer than 20 from the beginning of that month.

Only one case in the southwest was being treated in hospital on Thursday.

Across the province, 100 hospitalizations were reported, marking an increase of 21 since Dec. 30.
