Some familiar names and several unsuccessful council candidates will join City of Medicine Hat boards and quasi-judicial bodies in 2022.

Vacancies were filled by a secret ballot of applicant names at the Dec. 20 meeting of city council.

Incoming police commission members are Marco Jansen, who sought a council seat in October, and Gwendolin Dirk, who ran for public school board trustee.

Council candidate and former deputy fire chief Brian Webster was named to a three-year term of the city’s combative sports commission (the successor to the boxing commission).

Mark Asham, another council hopeful last fall, was named to a three-year term on the municipal planning commission, along with Catherine MacKenzie and returning commission member Pete Vanderham

Retired public services division commissioner Karen Charlton will join the Medicine Hat Public Library board for a two-year term. Three-year terms went to Rebecca Harper, Megan Hilgendorf, Ina Leahy and Bryton Wilson.

Former city chief assessor John Allan will sit on both the composite and local assessment review boards.

The new subdivision and appeal board member is Werner Fischer.

Each fall the city clerk advertises for members of the general public to apply to fill positions on a variety of boards, commissions and advisory bodies.
