https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews An early morning house fire in Brooks on New Year’s Day left one person dead as firefighters battled the blaze and frigid conditions in the overnight hours. The RCMP detachment in that city states they evacuated two residents after attending a home on Greenbrook Road just before 4 a.m. on Jan. 1. A third resident, described in the police release only as a 51-year-old Brooks man, was removed by fire crews but died of his injuries. Media reported the man’s identity as Cameron Fowler. A memorial fund has been created at the BMO branch in Brooks. Fatal highway crash A Lethbridge man is dead after a head-on collision near Fort MacLeod on Jan. 1. RCMP state traffic on Highway 3 was redirected for several hours after the accident at about 9 a.m. on Saturday. They believe an eastbound passenger car entered the westbound lanes about three kilometres west of the town and struck a westbound pick-up truck. The 52-year-old male driver of the car was transported to Calgary hospital by helicopter where he died of his injuries. The only other person involved, the truck’s driver, suffered minor injuries. The RCMP states the investigation into the cause and possible factors is continuing. Sask. accident Mounties in Kindersley are again calling for the public’s help in identifying a hit-and-run driver that injured a cyclist in the eastern Saskatchewan town in early December. Authorities say that at about 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, a vehicle of unknown model struck a cyclist about two kilometres north of Kindersley on Highway 21, leaving the man with serious injuries.
