Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope returns to regular hours today

kking@medicinehatnews.com As Medicine Hat endures extreme low temperatures, officials at the local Salvation Army are working to ensure no one is left in the cold. “My No. 1 priority right now is that no one dies,” Mickey Daily, Centre of Hope’s temporary supervisor, told the News. “It’s all about safety and people getting out of the cold.” Centre of Hope has been operating 24 hours a day throughout the Christmas season, however it will return to regular operating hours on Wednesday. The Centre (located at 737 Eighth St. SE) will be open from 7 p.m. to 11:30 a.m. from Monday to Friday, and 24 hours on weekends. During weekdays, Daily encourages anyone in need of shelter from the cold to visit the Salvation Army’s Community Resource Centre (located at 476 Fourth St. SE) which will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, with hot meals served at 5 p.m. Due to the New Year statutory holiday, the Community Resource Centre will be closed on Jan. 3, however the Centre of Hope will remain open 24 hours on that day. “We just want everybody to be safe over this Holiday Season,” Daily said. 8-7
