Teacher at Eagle Butte High School charged with sexual assault, exploitation of student

By Medicine Hat News on December 21, 2021.

A teacher at Eagle Butte High School in Dunmore has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a young person.

Redcliff RCMP said Monday that earlier this month they received a complaint from an unnamed student alleging that they had been assaulted on multiple occasions during 2021 by Rebecca Lynn McCubbin, 27, a teacher at the school.

On Dec. 16, RCMP officers arrested the women. She was released from custody under order to abide by a number of conditions. She will next appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on Jan. 27, 2022.

Prairie Rose Public Schools issued a statement Monday afternoon following the press release by the Redcliff detachment.

It states that once informed of the arrest, the teacher was “removed” from her position and is no longer working for the division or with any Prairie Rose students.

“PSRD is committed to assisting the RCMP fully and transparently throughout the process,” read a statement.

“Student safety and care becomes our first priority,” is says, adding that counselling for the general student population may be available through the Child advocacy Sanare Centre or Canadian Mental Health, with which the division is working.
