Winter weather is here to stay, but one community group is asking Hatters to get out, embrace it, then stop by to warm up.

The Southeast Hill Neighbourhood Association says it will operate the Kiwanis Kitchen at Central Park as a limited concession on certain days this winter, starting this weekend.

The non-profit group plans to open on Sunday afternoons to offer free hot chocolate to park users, those using the nearby low-board skating rink or any other Hatter who stops by after a neighbourhood walk.

SEHNA recently received initial approval for a city community vibrancy grant in 2022.

The group hopes to make hot chocolate available between 2 and 4 p.m. on Sundays, weather permitting.

Temperatures in Medicine Hat fell to-26C on Friday morning while the wind chill remained in the low -20s range throughout the day.

Some reprieve is expected Saturday with a high near freezing, before cooler temperatures on Sunday leads to a forecast high of -12C with a chance of flurries.
