The News asked some little Hatters their thoughts on Christmas. Their answers didn’t disappoint:

The News: Santa’s busy working at Christmas time, but what does he do the rest of the year?

Jack (Grade 2): Eats food to get fat!

Ayla (Grade 1): Sleep.

Chloe (Grade 1): He bakes Christmas cookies!

The News: How can the reindeer fly when they don’t have wings?

Jack (Grade 2): The reindeer don’t fly; its the sleigh that’s magic. He just has the reindeer because it makes it look cool.

Paxton (Grade 2): Reindeer dust.

Cohen (Grade 1): Magic from Christmas.

The News: What are reindeer’s favourite food?

Daenerys (Grade 1): Probably reindeer food.

Bennet (Grade 1): How about some leftover spaghetti? With some parmesan cheese.

Margot (Kindergarten): Carrots!

The News: Why do people kiss under the mistletoe?

Khloe (Grade 2): When you go under it, you have to kiss. I have one in my house … I try to stay away from it all I can.

Adelyn (Kindergarten): Because it’s a special time of year.

The News: Why do we hang stockings up on the chimney?

Ollie (Grade 4): So that Santa can come and he can put the treats in the stockings and not have to tape them to the presents.

Daenerys (Grade 1): Because Santa might drop off candy canes for the kids who want snacks at Christmas. First the stockings are empty, then after you sleep, it’s full of candy canes.

The News: How do people celebrate Christmas in countries where it doesn’t snow?

Ollie (Grade 4): The way they celebrate Christmas is by showing love for each other.

Khloe (Grade 2): If you live close to Hawaii, you could just make a sandman.

Bennet (Grade 1): So, they use a plane with a trailer that stays up. They grab millions and millions of snowflakes. Put it in the trailer that bigger than a school and (put it in) the plane and they fly back to their own country and sprinkle it. So they go back and forth.

The News: Why do we wrap Christmas presents?

Chloe (Grade 1): So that they can’t see.

Paxton (Grade 2): Because you want to surprise them with a present they love.

Jack (Grade 2): So that Santa can’t steal them.

The News: Why do we put Christmas lights on our houses?

Khloe (Grade 2): So he can see. If we don’t have Christmas lights on, he will bump into our house and maybe he’ll fall.

Cohen (Grade 1): So that Santa knows where we are.

The News: What Christmas present do you think Santa wants this year?

Adelyn (Kindergarten): For people to be nice and not mean.

Brynley (Kindergarten): Cookies!

Bennet (Grade 1): The smartest robot on the whole earth. Super smart, like as smart as me. He would tell it what to do, like make toys.

Penelope (Pre-school): Peppa pig.

Ollie (Grade 4) : I think the Christmas present Santa wants is getting to have a vacation!
