Mounties are seeking information on suspects from a break-in at the Acadia Valley post office, the Oyen detachment announced Friday.

Mounties say a man and woman driving a 2017-19 grey Ford Escape were involved in two break-ins, including a business, on Dec. 5 in the village located 160 kilometres northwest of Medicine Hat. Another break-in took place at the post office in Cereal, Alta. between 5 and 6 a.m. on the Sunday morning.

Police are looking for a man in his 20s, of medium build, who wore a black hooded sweatshirt and pants with black “Solomon” brand boots.

The female is estimated to be in her 30s, and of medium build. Video footage shows the pair using a crow bar and another hooked tool to gain entry.

Anyone with information should contact the Oyen detachment at 403-664-3505.

Swift Current ag researcher charged

Mounties say they have laid major fraud and break of public trust charges against an official at the Swift Current research facility of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada after a two-year investigation.

Yantai Gan, 71, is charged with breach of trust by a public officer and fraud over $5,000 by the National Security Enforcement Section of the RCMP.

RCMP officials in Saskatchewan said Friday that Gan, whose place of residence is stated as Kelowna, was arrested in November 2019 following a search warrant of his Swift Current residence. The investigation began in February 2018.

There was no immediate explanation of the timeline or locations listed.

The RCMP stated in a release no further comment would be made.

Gan will appear in Swift Current Provincial Court Dec. 13.
