The Redcliff RCMP is getting involved in the community this Holiday Season with the inaugural “Stuff the Cruiser” event on Dec. 17. “Stuff the Cruiser” will see a parked police cruiser in front of Redcliff Family Foods from 1-6 p.m. – where the community can drop off food donations that will then be placed in the car until it’s packed to the rafters in support of the Root Cellar (the former Medicine Hat and District Food Bank). “We’re just calling on everyone to stop by and help stuff the police car we’re going to have parked out front,” said Sgt. Al Rivard, acting detachment commander. “We’re just looking for non-perishable food items – anything that can support some families during the Christmas season via the food bank. We’re hoping that it’s going to become an annual event for us.” It was important for Redcliff RCMP to establish this event because it’s a part of officers being in the community. “Part of us being a part of the community is helping out in any way that we can,” said Rivard. “This is a great way for us to give back to the community and just to ensure it’s a special time of year – the Holiday Season is important to a lot of people – and we just want to make sure everybody has the best holiday, best Christmas they can and that no one goes hungry.” Donations are also being accepted at the Redcliff RCMP detachment from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Dec. 17. Rivard said a couple of RCMP detachments across the country have done it and it was always something in the back of his mind that if he was in a position like this, he would get something up and running. 9
