City building inspectors say they are nearing the end of an investigation into a local company they say wasn’t licensed to install hot tubs and could recommend the province pursue further penalties.

Last December, the City of Medicine Hat’s planning department issued a warning to residents of any hot tub installed by Water World Tubs, saying they should be inspected for safety reasons.

Officials say they have more than 20 instances where the company – which was licensed to perform maintenance of the devices – overstepped its certification and installed new equipment. They were not aware of any new work taking place since the initial December 2020 notice.

On Tuesday the city put out another notice to residents who may have dealt with the company as a final round of public outreach in the investigation.

They state that anyone who had a hot tub, spa or swimming pool installed, removed, repaired or otherwise serviced by the company, also known as “Water World 2062939 ALBERTA LTD.” should discontinue use and contact the city’s planning department.
