Medicine Hat’s trail system has expanded with the addition of the Ranchlands 2F&G Interpretive Trail, connecting the existing Ranchlands PH3 to the Parkview Dr. Trail.
Trails in this area have been in development since 2015, as they run through terrain deemed environmentally sensitive by land owner Alberta Environment and Parks.
“This trail is built with limestone rock, as opposed to asphalt or red shale,” Ian Hakes, Invest Medicine Hat project manager, said in a Thursday release. “It’s an environmentally friendly material with a longer lifespan, which enhances the natural area.”
There are also signs along the trail sharing information and celebrating the regional ecosystem.
The trail is open to walkers, joggers, cyclists and pet owners, however the city has requested pets remain leashed on the trail.
