A Medicine Hat man wanted in connection to what police described as an “aggravated assault” last month now faces a charge of firing a gun with intent to injure the victim along with several firearm offences.

Jeremiah James Amero, 31, was arrested in Calgary in mid-November after local police issued a warrant after they investigated an overnight incident at a home on the Southwest Hill on Nov. 11.

During an appearance Tuesday in Medicine Hat Provincial Court, charges against the man were expanded to include pointing a firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, having a loaded gun in a vehicle and two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm.

That is on top of the new charge of firing the gun and an original charge for aggravated assault.

Amero and another Hatter, 42-year-old Chad Lentz, were wanted in connection with the incident that occurred in the early morning hours of Nov. 11 at a home near the intersection of Seventh Street SW and Gershaw Drive.

Lentz was arrested separately by Calgary police in late November.
