The stock car was sufficiently stuffed on Sunday at Canadian Tire.

Members of the Medicine Hat Auto Racing Association parked a pair of race cars out front of the store and managed to drum up nearly $3,000 in money and toys for the Santa Claus Fund in the annual Stuff the Stock Car fundraiser.

“It’s important that our club keeps continuing on with it,” said Nicole Stratton in a release. Stratton helped load up a stock car alongside fellow member and driver Trevor Stratton on Sunday. “It’s great to get out there to give back to the community as it also gives us the opportunity to speak with the fans and answer any questions that they have about the club behind the scenes and information about our events.”

The event has been running for nearly 20 years, and in that span it has raised more than $40,000 in money and gifts for local families at the Holidays.

Darryl Maclean, who also helped put together and operate the event, said this year’s fundraiser is perhaps more important than ever.

“It’s so important especially now with what COVID has done to people’s financial situations,” Maclean said in the release. “So many people cannot afford gifts – we do it because people need us and to show community appreciation for the local support that we receive at our racetrack events.”

Santa Claus Fund executive director Deanna Doerksen said it was the most successful year for Stuff the Stock Car.

“We are so grateful for the collaboration with MHARA and Canadian Tire,” she said in the release. “It was the best year ever for this event.”
