https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews City crews will no longer clear the path that runs along one side of Altawana Drive, the city announced Monday, strongly suggesting pedestrians use the wider sidewalk on the north side of the busy road. The result is the path will no longer be considered open during winter months, according to a release. “This pathway is significantly narrower than a standard sidewalk and cannot be safely maintained using snow and ice control equipment,” read the statement. “For their safety, pedestrians are asked to use the sidewalk along the north side of Altawana Drive.” Wind damage The damage from 100 kilometre per hour winds early last week was four power poles and two light standards along with a number of trees in the Tower Estates area, according to an operations update to this week’s utility and infrastructure committee meeting. Division managing director Brad Maynes told committee that public infrastructure held up remarkably well during overnight gusts on Nov. 15. Tree removal Annual tree cutting and removal is underway in parks and on boulevards, the city announced last week. Parks staff and contractor Rite Enterprises will be trimming branches and removing dead or diseased trees on public property until about Dec. 15 at locations throughout the city. 10
