Rogers Communications to erect two new cell towers in County of Newell

Rogers Communications plans to improve cellular phone coverage along Highway 1 with two new towers in the County of Newell, that jurisdiction’s planning commission heard this month.

New towers would be located near the Trans-Canada Highway at the junction with Highway 876, which leads to Patricia, Alta., and just north of Bassano.

The towers would be 45 metres tall. The proposal was open to public consultation in October. Local governments have no authority over telecommunications infrastructure, which is federally regulated, but companies are required to discuss proposals with local development commissions.
