Correction: Voter turnout in Medicine Hat was 40%

A report in Wednesday’s edition may have left readers with an incorrect view of voter turnout in this week’s municipal election.

An unfortunate wording choice gave the impression that voter turnout had improved by 40% over the 2017 election, when, in fact, the actual turnout this year was 40%.

That is still an improvement over the previous vote. In total 19,797 votes were cast for mayor in 2021, up from about 16,459 four years earlier.
