A Medicine Hat man has pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing bodily harm to a woman and her infant son as his trial was set to begin this week.

Regan Douglas Glauser, now 39, was charged in early 2019 with dangerous driving and refusing to take a breathalyzer test after police say his pickup truck crossed the centre line while driving down Hill Road.

It collided with a Honda, which contained a female driver and her child.

The boy was later diagnosed with a fractured vertebra in his neck, but has since healed after “medical intervention” and a hospital stay in Calgary.

On Monday, Glauser pleaded guilty to two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm just as a scheduled five-day trial was set to proceed in Medicine Hat Court of Queens Bench.

Attempts to reach Glauser for a statement through his lawyer were unsuccessful on Tuesday.

The women sustained “soft-tissue” injuries in the crash which required months of physiotherapy to address, according to an agreed statement of facts read into the record.

Two other charges of dangerous driving against Glauser were dropped by the Crown.

A sentencing date for the 2022 is expected to be set in December.
