Voting for irrigation amalgamation concludes today

By Medicine Hat News on October 15, 2021.

Voting concludes today in the possible amalgamation of what may become the largest irrigation district in Alberta.

It was announced in June that the Taber Irrigation District and St. Mary’s River Irrigation District entered formal discussions regarding amalgamation. Ballots were sent to all district members, on which they could vote to amalgamate or remain separate. Only ballots postmarked on, or before Oct. 15 will be counted.

David Westwood, general manager of SMRID, told the News the outcome of the vote would be made public later in the month.

“We are hoping it’s a successful vote,” Westwood said.
