Former Progressive Conservative MLA acclaimed as councillor in County of Newell

Former MLA Arno Doerksen has been acclaimed as a councillor in the County of Newell ahead of this month’s municipal elections across Alberta.

Doerksen represented the riding of Brooks-Strathmore as a Progressive Conservative from 2008 to 2012. He was the only candidate nominated in Div. 9 (Gem) in the county races last month.

A total of four acclamations in the 10-division county were registered after nomination day, including Adena Marie Skanderup (Tilley), Holly Johnson (Scandia/Ranier/Bow City) and Kelly Christman (Bassano).

Elections in six other divisions will take place Oct. 18.
