There is a four-way race for mayor in Redcliff, including incumbent candidate Dwight Kilpatrick and former mayor Ernie Reimer.

Current council town member Shawna Gale and challenger Mark Payne are also running for the town’s top elected position after a list of candidates was released following nomination day Monday toward the Oct. 18 municipal election.

The eight candidates for six town council seats are James Allen, Cathy Crozier, Chris Czember, Larry Leipert, Shawn Proulx, William Ranger, Jim J. Steinke and Matthew St. Pierre.

Six-pack of races in county

Three positions on Cypress County council were acclaimed by unchallenged incumbents after Monday’s final deadline to file campaigns for the upcoming council term.

Six other wards will feature an election for voters.

The race in Ward 2 (Irvine/Walsh) is the largest with three men seeking to win in the area that was most recently represented by Darcy Geigle, who died earlier this month. Registered candidates there are Blaine Brost, Matthew Cole and Dustin Jones.

Two other wards will feature replays of the 2017 election as former councillor Garry Lenz faces incumbent Robin Kurpjeweit in Ward 4 (Longfellow), and Garry Proctor again challenges Richard Oster in Ward 7 (Seven Persons North/Desert Blume).

In Ward 5 (Dunmore/Veinerville) incumbent Dan Hamilton faces Della Burkitt, and in Ward 6 (Black & White/Seven Persons), current councillor Dustin Vossler faces Travis Tubman.

In Ward 3 (Elkwater) incumbent Ernest Mudie will face Lloyd Want.

Acclaimed were Michelle McKenzie in Ward 1 (Hilda/Schuler), Shane Hok in Ward 8 (Redcliff/Highway 524 North) and Alf Belyea in Ward 9 (Jenner/Suffield).
