Vaccination rates in southwest Saskatchewan are between nine and 10 per cent lower than the rest of that province, according to figures released Wednesday.

They state the percentage of the population over the age of 12 to receive one dose of vaccine in the Swift Current and Maple Creek health sub-zones was 69%, and the figure for two doses was 63.

Similar figures for the entire province sit at 78 and 73%, respectively.

That places the southwest as having the lowest uptake aside from three large zones in the extreme north of the province.

There were 83 active cases of COVID-19 in southwest Saskatchewan on Wednesday.

Vaccination rates are also comparatively low in the City of Medicine Hat and extremely low in some parts of southeast Alberta.

About 75% of age-eligible Hatters (those over 12) have had at least one dose, compared to the province-wide average of 79.4%, as of Tuesday night.

The percentage is lower in Cypress County (65.9%), County of Newell (65.4%, including the City of Brooks), County of Forty Mile (42%), M.D. of Taber (49.5%), and Oyen district (61.4%, which includes portions of the Special Areas).
