Broncs and Honky Tonks cancelled due to COVID spike

By Medicine Hat News on September 15, 2021.

The Broncs and Honky Tonks Rodeo has been cancelled.

The rodeo – initially rescheduled from the spring to run Friday through Sunday – was cancelled for several reasons, according to a release from the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede, primarily that local COVID-19 case numbers are the highest they’ve been since the pandemic began.

“This was not an easy decision for our board of directors to make,” Stampede general manager Kara Brake says in a release. “Unfortunately, cases continue to rise, including those in the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital and ICU. We have also seen an increase in deaths over the past couple of weeks. The board felt a social responsibility to not host an event that may further contribute to these numbers.”

Refunds will be given to those with tickets starting today by contacting the Stampede office at 403-527-1234 or mhstampede@mhstampede.com.
