Medicine Hat voters may be casting their ballot in a new location this federal election.
Elections Canada is reminding voters to check the poll location on their voting cards as schools will not play host to poll stations this election. Instead, polls have been moved to various businesses in the area.
“If you have a voter information card ensure you check the information on there,” said Leanne Nyirfa, the regional Elections Canada media adviser for Alberta.
She says they can’t say for certain but the move could have been made due to some schools not feeling comfortable with outside visitors due to COVID-19 concerns.
“With the pandemic, we know that some schools maybe weren’t comfortable having voting stations set up in their schools and we’ve respected that and in those situations we’ve looked to other locations within communities that would be good candidates, Nyirfa said.
She urges voters that if they have not received their voter card by Friday, to contact Elections Canada to find their voting location.
