Crime rates fell across the board in Redcliff this spring, even when compared to a slower than usual spring of 2020, but driving infractions and accidents were up, a report to town council stated Monday.

The quarterly report from the RCMP detachment in the town shows between April and June of this year, criminal code violations fell compared the same period in 2020. That includes 11 per cent fewer personal offences, 2 per cent fewer property crime offences and a near one-quarter drop in all other citations (23 per cent).

Over the same time, traffic code tickets rose 45 per cent, and collisions nearly doubled to 11 over the three months compared to spring 2020, when there were likely fewer vehicles on the road.

Full-year statistics in every category except bylaw violations fell in 2020 compared to 2019, including a near halving of traffic tickets and serious crime. Personal crime instances remained steady at 72 that year.
