A new campground and trails at Cypress Hills, Sask., and a service centre at Saskatchewan Landing are part of that province’s capital projects ahead of next year, a release states.

Saskatchewan Parks detailed the spending plans, worth $10.4 million for the southwest region, on Aug. 11.

Specific to the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park, a campground comprising 60 serviced stalls and a new service centre should be open ahead of the 2022 season. A playground structure and trail development is also underway there after the ministry completed upgrades to the pool building this season.

A reception centre and camping services centre is planned for Saskatchewan Landing, on Lake Diefenbaker.

Federal cash for Hat sidewalks

In one of the final grant funding announcements prior to the weekend federal election call, the City of Medicine Hat will receive about $800,000 for sidewalk repairs.

The Aug. 10 infrastructure funding announcement notes the Hat among nearly two dozen grants, totalling $37.7 million, that include some matching amounts from the province or municipalities. The city’s share of the local project will be $200,000.

Major amounts were earmarked for Red Deer, where Ottawa will help pay to repair storm sewers and outfalls ($9.6 million), a flood berm ($6.6 million), a fire training facility ($3.6 million) and cultural centre renovations ($1.8 million). That city is contributing $5.4 million.

Fort McMurray will receive $7.6 million to develop a new park and flood proof municipal infrastructure.

About $3 million is provided in a co-pay plan with the province for upgrading mental health facilities at major hospitals in Lethbridge, Calgary and Edmonton.
