High-risk incident quickly resolved

Medicine Hat Police Service safely resolved a high-risk incident at the 700 block of Ninth Street SE Wednesday afternoon.

At around 4 p.m., MHPS announced via social media it was responding to a report of “an armed, emotionally disturbed subject” and requested for people to avoid the area.

An MHPS release states the subject was taken into custody with the assistance of a crisis negotiator, patrols and on-duty members of the tactical unit. The release adds the subject was brought to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital for assessment.

No injuries were sustained by the subject or responding officers.
