The Prairie Gleaners, a regional not-for-profit organization that sends food to the hungry all over the world, gave an overview of its output for 2021 at the halfway point of the year.

“At this point in our year, we at the Prairie Gleaners have shipped our dehydrated vegetable mix to a number of countries in order to help Feed the Hungry of the World” a press release states.

In January alone, the group shipped three pallets with 240 bags each and one with 320 bags to Caracas, Venezuela via East West Trucking out of Calgary to Toronto and on to Caracas. Members thanked Fellowship Aid & International Relief (FAIR) for handling the shipping.

Nearly 3,000 bags were also shipped to Nicaragua, via East West Trucking through the Global Emergency Missions Society (GEMS) out of Abbotsford.

“The Dominican Republic also were sent 5,088 bags, again through Every Day Missions Canada, East West Trucking and GEMS.”

A group called Faith Missions out of Winkler, Man. also took more than 1,000 bags of the Prairie Gleaners mix, along with clothing, bedding and used bicycles – from other sources – to Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Early in July, GEMS took 1,184 bags of the dehydrated vegetable mix to Guatemala and 5,000 to Honduras.

“In total we have shipped 16,372 bags of our dehydrated vegetable mix to various countries around the world. At 120 cups per bag this is equal to 1,964,640 cups.”

The press release states that the Prairie Gleaners continues to supply the Medicine Hat Mustard Seed.

The group will also be making some major changes at the plant and that “an anonymous local partner has agreed to give us enough startup financing so we can begin our project on a good footing.”

“As a Christian not-for-profit organization all we can say is that God is looking out for us just as He has done for the past 11 years.”
