https://www.medicinehatnews.com@MedicineHatNews A horse that collapsed in the infield at Thursday’s opening go-round of the Medicine Hat Stampede rodeo has died. The horse was off to the side of the action as tie-down roping event was underway when it fell to the ground with its rider. The show was delayed as a veterinary trailer pulled up to attend to the animal. Stampede general manager Kara Brake said she was informed that the horse died of unknown but apparently natural causes. Due to the suddenness, it was not euthanized, but expired quickly. “It’s quite unusual at a rodeo, so it was an emotional night and emotional day here,” she said, stating the Stampede hasn’t lost a horse at a rodeo for at least five years. The three-day event concludes Saturday with a matinee performance beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Stampede and Exhibition grandstand. 9
