Common vaccine shots restarted in South zone this week

Scheduled shots to prevent more common diseases such as whooping cough, tetanus, and variety of other ailments have restarted in the South zone this week at some COVID-19 clinics in the province.

A release from Alberta Health Services states that school-aged children who did not receive routine boosters or initial shots due to the COVID disruption last school year can book as of July 26 through the end of August.

Those appointments will be processed through the existing COVID-19 clinics that are in operation to “increase our offering of immunization to students and families before the 2021-2022 school year starts.”

Appointments are open to students in Grades 6-10, and will be available through the school year. Typically, Grade 6 students are offered the Hepatitis B and human papillomavirus vaccine. Grade 9s are offered boosters against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (dTap) and meningitis.
