Maintenance work on several pedestrian bridges in Medicine Hat is set to get underway on Thursday.

The Division Avenue elevated crossing that links Riverside to Crescent Heights over the CP rail line will be closed starting July 29 as contract crews repair metal work and concrete, install new handrails and remove overgrown vegetation. That work could continue until mid-September, while similar work on the Kensington foot bridge over the Ajax Coulee near the Southwest Hill will be closed August 3-23 as footings are secured and the span is painted.

The larger, concrete Altawana Drive overpass and the TransCanada Highway pedestrian overpass, at Seventh Street near the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, will also see repairs this year.

All projects are part of infrastructure stimulus grants provided by the government of Canada.
