Medicine Hat Fire Services responded to a residential structure fire in the South Ridge area in the early hours of Wednesday morning, but deputy chief Chad Eakins says crews managed to keep the blaze contained and no one was harmed.

“We had three stations respond and the crews did a real good job at keeping the exposures under control so it was contained to one house,” Eakins said in a phone call with the News. “The police have taken over the investigation … Our investigators are working with them.”

Medicine Hat Police Service administrative services manager Rita Sittler says the fire took place at around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning on Saamis Rotary Way, but could not disclose any further details surrounding the cause of the fire.

“Our major crimes section is investigating the cause of the fire in conjunction with the fire service, but that’s all that’s known at this time,” said Sittler.
