A fatal collision involving a semi-truck and pedestrian was reported late Monday night on a highway north of Stirling.

Officers with the Raymond-Magrath detachment say the fatality took place near the junction of Highway 4 and Highway 61 just after midnight. An initial investigation indicates the pedestrian was in the laneway of the northbound truck at the time of the impact. Authorities were still in the process of identifying the victim Tuesday afternoon. Traffic was diverted for about six hours.

Canada Day drowning

A man from Central Butte, Sask., is presumed drowned after he leapt off a boat into Lake Diefenbaker to help a struggling child on July 1.

RCMP say that several children were brought onto the boat safely but the 36-year-old man did not resurface.

A search of the area by Mounties, conservation officers, nearby emergency services and civilian boats did not locate the man, and the RCMP underwater dive team began its search later that day. The man’s identity was not released.
