Starting July 13, you can get bendy in Kin Coulee Park with “Intro to Acro Yoga in the Park.”

Jessica Day, Acro Yoga and Pole Fitness Instructor in Medicine Hat, says she previously taught dance for 15 years and this has been a good transition for her. Day will run the class Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting, in Kin Coulee Park beside the volleyball courts. She recommends attendees bring a water bottle and mat or blanket.

“No prior yoga or acro experience required,” said Day in an email to the News. “You don’t need to be flexible, you just need to have fun! Acro Yoga is a partnered practice combining acrobatics and yoga – the adult version of ‘airplane’ on your dad’s feet as a kid! It’s a great way to meet new people, have fun, build trust, strength and connection.

“If you haven’t tried Acro Yoga yet, then there is no better time than now to jump on board and join in. Safely lift each other up beyond our own perceived limitations and most important to bring back a sense of play and fun in our lives.”

Current health rules allow for unmasked sports practice and play. The class is $10 per person or $15 for two. You can join and check the Facebook event, “Intro to Acro Yoga in the Park,” to stay updated on cancellations due to weather conditions.

“A lot of people see it that it’s just maybe a yoga practise, but it’s a lot of acrobatics, it’s also just about connecting with people more than trying to do a yoga flow,” said Day. “The main thing I’d want people to know is that you don’t need to be flexible, you don’t need to have all the strength and you don’t need to be a certain size to do this. We have men lifting women, women lifting men; it works for everybody.”
