The Saddles ‘n’ Spurs Light Horse 4-H Club volunteered in the annual spring Highway Clean-up on May 1.

We were one out of the 23 groups helping to declutter the highways of garbage and debris in our ditches. Each club was assigned 16 km of highway to clean up, and the provincial government paid for each kilometre we covered. This was a big fundraiser for our club!

Our Achievement Day was held on June 5 at the newly owned Coyote Creek Riding Arena. This year’s Achievement Day was all about having fun and no competitions.

It was a fun filled day with gymkhana events and relay races to showcase the members and their horses.

Many of the skills learned in the 4-H levels can be demonstrated while having fun in these 4-H horse riding games: Toilet Paper Pairs (Command Class), Barrels, Poles, Sack Race, Flag Picking, Musical Hoops, Egg and Spoon Race, Bucket Bail Relay, and Bare Back Dollar Bill Race.

These events were followed by a celebration and wonderful prizes, which were from a horse bucket filled with horse items. Thank you very much to Marni Fisher and the Achievement Day Committee for all your planning and organizing to make this day a success.

Every year a member in our club is awarded the Sportsmanship Award, which is sponsored by Rafter V Ranch (Keith and Rhonda Reesor). They have provided a beautiful trophy that gets passed down from year to year as well as a prize that the recipient gets to keep. The members vote on a fellow member who displayed good sportsmanship and helped fellow members and the club throughout the year. This year’s 2021 Sportsmanship Award went to Katalena Hirsch.

Congratulations!
