The City of Medicine Hat is preparing to open more outdoor pools to Hatters who register for swim times on its website.

Hill Pool was open Tuesday for up to 10 people who reserved times for lane swimming, and Strathcona Pool will be available this weekend, said Natalie Weir, manager of recreation and leisure programming with the parks department.

That comes as Alberta government pandemic restrictions eased Tuesday, though indoor fitness facilities are still not allowed to host participants.

That could occur mid-month as health authorities are expected to announce Stage 2 reopening restrictions.

“We are still waiting to hear the exact date,” Weir told the News on Tuesday. “But we’re preparing to be as ready as possible when we can (open up).”

Anyone wishing to register should visit the city’s recreation website.

In the meantime, Weir reminds residents he city is now offering virtual fitness classes and will be prepared to begin offering both virtual and some outdoor offerings soon as well.

City spray parks opened last week.
